We had a wonderful lunch - Chipotle and garden tea - with the Stoltzfus and the Miller families. Like a mini Hillcrest reunion. Again wonderful food & fellowship.
In the afternoon, the Stoltzfus' took us around on a New Horizons & Canon City tour. We were wow-ed by the volume the thrift store processes. Truckloads of stuff!
They also took us on a scenic drive- a steep, one way road up a mountain with quite a drop-off and no guardrails, built with prison labor. We started dealing with mild headaches from the change of elevation in CO.
But what a view of Canon City from the top!
The Stoltzfus' were so generous in letting us borrow a vehicle so we could go to Royal Gorge Bridge in the evening. We waited till evening to avoid the miserable heat. We rode the aerial gondolas across to the south side.
No kidding!
That moment when the wind is whistling around the gondola and its a long, long way down so your sons are taking pics of you because they know you are uncomfortable with heights..
The highest suspension bridge -1000 ft. from rim to river
We had been advised to make sure we see the film on the history of the bridge- we caught the last showing of the day before we walked across the bridge.
Fathers Day photo with the kids-
Probably the only one we'll ever take with all the kids in Colorado!
I know I already said it but it is a really, really long way down!
And it was incredibly windy on the bridge. We could feel it swaying.
You don't even want to know what these couple of rednecks were doing...
Really?!
Just one of the beautiful reasons we fell in love with CO-
We drove back to the Stoltzfus' via the scenic overlook so the boys could see it.
It was even more beautiful at sunset! And not as hot.
We sat on the Stoltzfus' front porch so we could connect to Wi-Fi (for some reason we couldn't connect in the park behind their house) and book our next reservation, while we waited for them to get home from their revival meetings.
Our motorhome was parked next to the community center and we were able to use the bathroom facilities in it, which was very nice. We really enjoyed our time at New Horizons, getting more familiar with the ministry and what they do there. You can read newsletters, but nothing beats seeing it for yourself.
to be continued-
