Our Last Winter Break

This week was our last Winter Break. Technically, we don't have any students in school anymore (since A. finished up early) so the schedule doesn't really affect us, but we'll squeeze out one last school holiday wherever we can.
Since 2002 when my in-laws purchased a winter home in Florida, we have been going south every other year. This would be our FL year, but with all the traveling we did last year we decided not to go this time. Since our children are adults, our preferred Winter Break activity is hitting the slopes. This time we traveled to Holiday Valley in Ellicottsville NY. In hopes of finding more snow than the midwest is experiencing this winter. It was a balmy 50* there -not ideal conditions on the slopes- but it takes more than that for us to cancel out.

Even though I don't ski myself, this makes me happy.
It was DIL, A's first vacation with us. I hope she enjoyed it because I'm sure it won't be our last time at the slopes and it makes this momma happy when the whole family does things together. Quality time happens to be a dominant love language in our family.

This was only A's 2nd time on skis, but she is picking it up quite well.

There weren't as many 'blacks' at this ski resort but I think JS still had fun.
JR graduated to blacks and enjoyed the terrain park this year

 Meanwhile back at the ranch...
it's doughnut o'clock!

when you forget to pack a rolling pin, you gotta improvise with a vanilla bottle. lol

The whole point of making doughnuts during winter break was because I need a 2nd set of hands to help. When my helper ditched me for skiing, I was lucky enough to get another expert glaze-er, DIL A.!

I am now the happy owner of my Grandma's Cutco fork and I gotta tell ya- that thing is the bomb for frying doughnuts!

Fresh hot doughnuts disappear with amazing rapidity.
 6 dozen doughnuts later...
life is good!

And some of us hit the coffee shop yet before heading home.
Another successful Winter Break ski trip!
It went by way too fast. If we didn't have 6 work schedules to work around, we'd stay a couple days longer.

And now it's 75* at our house today. In February!!! FL ain't got nothing on us!
Time to break out the sirloins & do some grilling.
