This was the off-year, the year for little things. A. & I planned to venture forth to the city, do some shopping, get a motel for the night and shop some more the next day. And of course our tradition of making doughnuts one day.
But then we got a last-minute invitation to join a group who was going skiing. It's not as simple as it used to be- there are now 3 different work schedules to coordinate. The best we could manage was 2 days off, but the vote carried to go for it anyway. So we crawled out of bed at 3am and drove a couple hours to the ski resort.
A. wanted to learn how to ski. With a brother, a dad and an uncle to teach you, what could possibly go wrong?! She started out here on the green, skipping the bunny slope completely. Proud of her.
Not being the athletic type, I have never tried to ski. I stayed in the condo and made doughnuts for the skiers & snowboarders. About 5 dozen doughnuts disappeared in 24 hours so I think it's safe to say they were good. Nothing like a fresh warm glazed doughnut!
My family skied/boarded all day and all evening...
And went out the next morning to do it all again. In the rain.
Miserable skiing weather. They all got drenched.
Yet A. is totally hooked. Absolutely loved it.
In fact, we all agreed it was one of the most fun winter breaks ever.
I see more ski vacations in my future.
So I'm asking myself do I give skiing a try, too? "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and "try it, you might like it"
Or is it "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" and I better play it safe at my age- stick to tubing?

Who needs a gourmet cook when you can have homemade donuts?? I'm guessing the skiers vote that you stick with supplying their snack!!
