Much has happened in the last week, delaying me from posting.
*School started on the 25th. Farewell leisurely morning personal devotions on the window seat. :(
*We did travel to PA for the weekend, but our Valley Forge tour had to be canceled due to rain. Spent the day in Harrisburg instead, touring the capital & state museum. I found out how transplanted I have become -PA history didn't have the same appeal as it did at one time. The most memorable happening was the rained-out picnic & subsequent huddle on a narrow porch (only to discover later a spacious porch was lurking 1 level below). Memorable event # 2 -pickled pig snout at our evening picnic. We passed.
JR turned 16, but the day passed without much fanfare on his account. Somehow we are always incredibly busy over his b-day to where I marvel that we had time to have a baby on that day. Not to mention that I waddled through the zoo all day prior to his coming. He was destined to be ADHD!
*We headed home shortly after 8PM. R has this tendency to drive faster as he gets sleepier, which leaves me biting my nails in anticipation of our entire family being wiped out in one fell swoop. Thus I was wide awake at 11:00 due to frequent straying onto the rumble strips; I took over driving duties. I was writing elaborate blog posts in my head for entertainment as everyone else slept, none of which I can remember now. Growing sleepy, I commenced to reciting the little blue engine mantra until arriving safely home.
*Sunday we had a special services at our church with an Answers in Genesis speaker. Very worth coming home for. Since school was canceled Monday & Tuesday, homework could be postponed and we got a delicious afternoon nap.
*Monday evening we attended calling hours for "Grandma" W. from our church. My last visit with her 4 days before her departure is a precious memory. She showed us how to live well and then how to die well. Tuesday was taken up with the funeral, and then serving the meal afterwards. The funeral was a very nicely-done memorial. I have been pondering funerals vs. memorials this week. By my definition a funeral service is more formal & comprises largely of preaching while a memorial service focuses on sharing memories of the departed. For the record- of the 2, I would much prefer a memorial service upon my departure.
*Today the children returned to school and I tackled the last tomato harvest, yielding 9 gallons of juice.
Good night.
