Road Trip '19

We've completed our first road trip of 2019. Our daughter went to Bible School; we went down for the closing program and brought her home. We were happy when she decided to go, and felt bad when she got off to a rough start, but she ended up loving it.

Our DIL and granddaughter decided last minute to go along and surprise her. This little lady did exceptionally well for such a long drive.
Life is rough when you are 1 and haven't quite mastered YouTube yet. 😀
Its oh-so-annoying when you can't make Grammie's Kindle keep singing Baby Shark

The mountains were beautiful.

I didn't have a chance to catch the reaction of these 2 when they first saw each other, but it was priceless.

We enjoyed the program. In this photo, Arianna is 4th from right in the front row. (Not the best snapshot, but I was trying to be discrete.)

We had discussed doing some sightseeing on the way home. The original suggestion was a beach day. But alas this area isn't close to "anything". 5 hours [out-of-route] to the beach? I don't think so. Not to mention, when we got there it was quite cold for the south. I googled things to do in the winter and discovered an area close to our travel route that has 250 waterfalls along a single stretch of highway, some of which are allegedly stunning in the winter. I picked one, which is reportedly the 2nd most photographed falls in the USA (after Niagara).

So..... sometimes my family should save me from myself. I love adventure. I love traveling, and seeing new places. Driving over a mountain with insane switchbacks for an hour? Not so much. I felt terrible that I put everyone else through misery to arrive at this destination.

But I think these people might have forgiven me when they saw the falls. I hope.

There was a mist coming off the falls so the stairs down to the bottom were icy, and there was a thick coat of ice on the trees and rocks along the stream. Beautiful. Worth taking time to see in the winter!
If I ever get to this area again, I would love to hunt up more waterfalls. However, I will be sure to find a different route to get there, one that doesn't involve switchbacks!

We arrived home at 2am yesterday. I am so proud of our DIL & granddaughter for being such great travel companions & putting up with us. I'm pretty sure that when I was a Miller for just 2 years I would not have been brave enough to take a long road trip with my in-laws. These are keepers!
