Team Truckin'

Last week we spent 3 days at the Mid-America Trucking Show. This was my 19th year. People that aren't in the industry probably can't understand why we get excited about this & look forward to it all year. It's just that late March is such a good time for a little get-away to where it's usually warmer & greener than at home. And I enjoy supporting the man of the house in what he does best.
Due to some technically difficulties, my admission badge came out this year labeling me as an Owner-Operator. Owner -yes. Operator? Definitely not! Join me in laughing hysterically. If I tried to operate a semi, I would be that proverbial woman driver men everywhere gripe about. I couldn't back a trailer to save my life. I fall into the "give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around" category. We only had 1 person notice & ask if we drive team. Let's just say we are a team, but I don't drive. I know there are couples out there that do this, even Mennonite couples, but these women are more gutsy than I.

The hot subject in the industry right now is electronic logs. In bygones, we have wandered around the massive trade show with virtually no agenda other than to see what's there, but this year we had specific plans to educate ourselves on this and other industry matters. It was worth our time. Considering neither of us owns a smartphone, we're "old school" (and not ashamed of it). But compliments of new government regulations, it's looking like old dogs are going to have to learn new tricks. Other than that, the future is looking pretty bright for our segment of the industry.
